GSC is so thrilled that this new initiative is off and running, and honored to have helped do our part to get the community behind it!
Amazing experience today. G Mandel Copeland, the creator of 50ksouls, was honored by Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot with the William Donald Schaefer “Helping People Award” this morning at Greater Salisbury Committee. A thank you to all of those in attendance, including SenatorAddie Eckardt, Delegates Charles J Otto, Sheree Sample-Hughes andJohn Mautz, Salisbury Mayor Jacob Day, Wicomico County Council President John T Cannon, and Register of Wills in Wicomico County Karen A. Lemon. Also sharing the dais today was Jermichael King Langston Mitchell. And, making so many things happen, as he always does, Len Foxwell, the Comptroller’s Chief of Staff. What a moving and special day. GSC was proud to host this event.
Greater Salisbury Committee salutes the efforts of Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver. After decades – literally decades – of getting oh so close to bringing the question of what to do about a deed restriction that limited the Civic Center’s ability to sell alcohol at events in the building – Culver took the bull by the horns. And he took on the deed restriction. As it turns out, the bull had no real kick to it. Not ONE public comment was made in opposition to ending this decade’s old ban. A deed review by stellar attorney Paul Wilber found an opening. Our County Liquor Board took a courageous vote. And the Maryland General Assembly passed a bill. And now, as a fully functioning Civic Center, one that sells beer and wine, it can more fully compete on the regional stage for acts and entertainment. Another step forward for our community.
Big news and a big leap forward for Wicomico County. The Wor-Wic free tuition initiative is now in place. It’s a great start to a great future for the students of Wicomico County!! Thanks to County Executive Bob Culver for proposing this idea. Thanks to Wor-Wic President Dr. Ray Hoy for putting meat on the bones of this proposal. And thanks to the Wicomico County Council for passing it. Greater Salisbury Committee and Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce / Salisbury, MD were both big proponents of this concept. We look forward to watching it make a difference!!
I got to spend some time with Greg Basset and talk about what is going on in our community
