At our April monthly meeting, Greater Salisbury Committee Members were hosted by Perdue Farms, CEO Randy Day at Perdue’s new Learning Center located in Downtown Salisbury.
A GREAT meeting was just held. GSC is launching an idea next Spring, one that was brought our way by some very engaged Salisbury leaders: Chris Eccleston, Robby Sheehan, Heather Duma, and Jake Day. GSC, in conjunction with Salisbury University, will be launching a Transformational Community Leaders program this Spring. Next gen leaders will “drill down” and get to know the key businesses, institutions, and entities in Salisbury/Wicomico County area – all in an effort to take their current knowledge base of our area, and expand on it. Exciting stuff. Stay tuned.
A great meeting today of the newly forming Wicomico Education Foundation – designed to help bolster support for our Wicomico Public Schools. This idea is a joint effort of the Greater Salisbury Committee and the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, with support also from the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore. Start up committee is moving forward. Exciting stuff. More to come.
Greater Salisbury Committee hosted the Salisbury Youth Development Advisory Committee – YDAC – for its’ second meeting this week. Look at that turnout!!! The RIGHT people, around the RIGHT table, working hard to figure out how this city can better invest in our young people. Community Centers? Mobile “Pop Up” Neighborhood presence? #UNITE SBY. We’re trying. YDAC was born, in part, by the GSC commitment to finding ways to help Salisbury’s “At Risk” youth, and by Mayor Jake Day and the Salisbury City Council’s commitment to….doing the same thing. #Partnerships!!
Jayme Hayes of Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore and Sophia Smecker of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, were the featured speakers at the October General Membership Meeting at GSC. Jayme and her JA Fellows Program will be featured in a new jobs grant that was made possible by Wicomico County. Sophia and the Chamber run Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) which launches careers of local teens. Thanks to Jayme and Sophia for great presentations.
This is Greater Salisbury Committee member Matt Drew, today off the coast of Block Island, Rhode Island. Matt is a key member of the Lower Shore Wind initiative, which GSC is proud to be a part of. Led by GSC member Katarina Ennerfelt, Matt Drew, and Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce President Ernie Colburn, Lower Shore Wind is working hard to be a key contributor for the construction of a wind farm off the coast of Ocean City. Jobs, and more jobs, for the Delmarva Peninsula would be at stake. Thanks Matt Drew, for hitting the ground – and the sea – running on behalf of Lower Shore Wind.
